MLK BLVD

MLK BLVD

According to University of Tennessee geography professor Derek Alderman, there are over 700 streets in the U.S. (re)named for civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Most of those streets are in the south, and Dr. King’s home state of Georgia has more than any other state.  Savannah’s West Broad Street, once the hub of African-American business and social life, was renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in 1990.   Here are snapshots taken along the southern end of Savannah’s MLK Jr. Blvd. (between Gwinnett and Exhcange).
